# Discovery tools

> The tools that search the catalog, describe a tool, call any tool and read stored results.

These tools are always listed. All are free.

## fincept\_search\_tools

Finds tools by what they do. Returns `matches` with each tool's `name`, `signature`, `effect`, `toolset` and `summary`, plus the list of `toolsets`.

## fincept\_describe\_tool

Returns one tool's full description and JSON input schema.

  Tool name, for example `market_get_options_chain`.

## fincept\_call\_tool

Runs any tool by name, listed or not. Use it from clients that call only listed tools; other clients can call the tool directly.

  The tool's arguments.
</ParamField>

## fincept\_read\_result

Reads a stored large result: any field by path, any list by page. See [large results](/guides/results#large-results).

  Dot path from the envelope root, as named in `truncated.lists`: `data.candles`, `blocks.forecast.rows`.

  First item to return.

  Items per page, up to 5,000.
</ParamField>

## stats\_catalog

Lists every Fincept Stats module and tool with a one-line description.

  List one module only, by module or toolset name, for example `power` or `stats_power`.

## forecast\_catalog

Lists every Fincept Forecast module and tool with a one-line description.

  List one module only, by module or toolset name, for example `backtest` or `forecast_backtest`.
</ParamField>

## alloc\_catalog

Lists every Fincept Allocation module and tool with a one-line description.

## pfopt\_catalog

Lists every Fincept Portfolio Optimizer module and tool with a one-line description.

## quant\_catalog

Lists every Fincept Quant module and tool with a one-line description.
